The mission of the GDC is to curate and provide access to oceanographic data, especially from Scripps expeditions, making them accessible for scientific and educational use worldwide. Originally launched by Bill Menard, the GDC has been in operation for more than 40 years. While many historic physical artifacts are carefully preserved, the current emphasis is on digital archiving, in coordination with other national and international programs.

The International Ocean Discovery Program’s (IODP) Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) is located in the Research Park on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas. This repository stores DSDP, ODP, and IODP cores from the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and the Southern Ocean. A satellite repository at Rutgers University houses New Jersey/Delaware land cores 150X and 174AX.

SMHI's observation stations collect large quantities of data, including temperature, precipitation, wind, air pressure, lightning, solar radiation and ozone. Satellites and radar installations are also important sources. Data is presented continuously on smhi.se and used in SMHI's various weather services. In the Explorer SMHI’s data ( http://opendata-catalog.smhi.se/explore/ ) you find data available with open access (in Swedish). At a minimum, users will be able to determine whether a dataset on a specific topic exists and then whether it pertains to a specific place and/or a specific date or period. CARIBIC is an innovative scientific project to study and monitor important chemical and physical processes in the Earth´s atmosphere. Detailed and extensive measurements are made during long distance flights. We deploy an airfreight container with automated scientific apparatus which are connected to an air and particle (aerosol) inlet underneath the aircraft. We use an Airbus A340-600 from Lufthansa since December 2004.
